If this had involved any American citizen, let alone an American diplomat, what wouldn't we have heard about lack of manners and of sophistication, as well as "those #$%@(^@ Yanks think they own the whole planet!", as French politicians, intellectuals, and members of élite jumped on the bandwagon to denounce America's arrogance…
